Past Conferences

The Mental Health Association of Portland has presented the Law & Mental Health Conference since 2000 as a benefit to the community. The conference is designed for a broad spectrum of persons interested in the confluence of mental illness and the law, people of different experiential and educational backgrounds, people both employed by the mental illness industry, and by adjacent industries such as law and science. 

Programming of the conference is by invitation only and supports an annual theme. The conference program elevates speakers who are women, those who use their personal experience of mental illness or addiction to inform their practice and understanding of the world, or who represent communities traditionally ignored are elevated. Since 2020 the conference has been presented entirely online to a national audience. Online conferences can be produced at a fraction of the cost of in-person conferences and are a different by equal learning experience. 

Sponsorships are solicited from governments, foundations, and corporations. To to increase access and equity, sponsorships provide scholarships for people with lived experience of mental illness or addiction at half the regular registeration cost.
